My Stock Simulation

In The Westing Game, Turtle Wexler is investing in stocks so we decided to do that. Ms. Sprague helped us make our sheets and we were given 20,000 “Totally real and definitely not fake” dollars. I invested in Pioneer Natural Recourses (PXD), AT&T (T), Verizon (VZ), Starbucks (SBUX), and LEGO Coin USD (LEGO-USD). PXD lost me $940, T lost me $280.84, VZ lost me $296.7, SBUX lost me $345.4, LEGO-USD made me $2.746. In total I lost $1860.194. I was the biggest loser! Yay!

Remember this was not done with real money.

My TED like Talk

In Language Arts. our teacher assigned us a project to present a Ted like talk to the class about something we were passionate about. I chose to do my talk about sailing. I am passionate about sailing because I love to do it and my family has done it for generations. How I presented mine was I went up to the podium, had a slide show on the screen, and talked for five minutes. I hope you do some community speaking about something you’re passionate about.

The Last Cuentista and Ideal World

Apple Books

The Last Cuentista is a science fiction novel set on Earth (kind of). The main character is a girl named Petra Penã. In the start of the book Halley’s comet is heading towards Earth. The impact would be big enough to wipe out Earth, so the government makes multiple humongous ships that will transport all of the important government officials, scientists, a sapling from the tree Hyperion, and other important people to a planet called Sagan. Everyone is put in gel and put to sleep. A few hundred years later Petra wakes up and realizes everyone but her has been reprogrammed. Can she find her family and escape? Find out in The Last Cuentista by Donna Barba Higuera.

After reading The Last Cuentista our teacher told us to write about our Ideal World. Mine is planet Nojiti and it is a planet paradise. It has features similar to earth but it has lots of peaceful plants and animals. It has crystal clear water and many diverse ecosystems that are very important for the life of the planet. Nojiti is a peaceful planet that has vast oceans and big forests. There are many sailboats to sail on and to relax on. All animals are very nice and will come up to you. The animals are also telepathic and can understand any language. The plants produce fruits and berries and none will harm you. The plants also suck up any pollution that gets into the atmosphere. That is the basics of planet Nojiti.

After all of that, we made handmade books with our local artist Peg Gignoux. She taught us how to aku ink print, collage, fold, and put on covers. The covers were made of hard pink foam (ish) stuff and the pages were made of watercolor paper and were painted.

In conclusion this was a very fun series of projects. I highly recommend The Last Cuentista and looking into Peg’s other work. Thank you for reading!

Science

This year science has been amazing. My favorite project is the heat shield where you make a heat shield to protect your egg. The materials are metal sheets, tin foil, felt, string, spackling, metal lathe, screen, metal wool, Swedish sponge, and tape. The shield has to be smaller than 1cm and has to be less than 45 grams. I got second place out of five places. I hope to do more experiments in the future!

Planet Nojiti

Planet Nojiti

By Jon

Planet Nojiti is a planet paradise.

There is no government. No one can do anything that will hurt the plants or animals or they will be sent off of the planet. There is an optional bonding party every two months that has dancing, games, and a chosen activity for that party.

When somebody dies they will go into the Doors of the Religions. The Doors of the Religions are a ton of doors that represent each religion. Each door goes to each religion’s afterlife/the steps to get to the afterlife. There is a door keeper that will reach into their mind to see if they actually do the religion. If they don’t, an invisible force knocks them out of the door. If they don’t practice any religions they will go through a special door that will have someone reach into their mind to decide if they haven’t done anything wrong/bad. If they are good they get to go into the afterlife and if they are bad they will be tortured.

That is the basics of Nojiti. I hope you get on the next super rocket to get to this planet paradise!

Keeper of the Lost Cities Stellarlune

-Screen grab from Sora.

Keeper of the Lost Cities Stellarlune is an amazing book so far. The author is Shannon Messenger and the genre is fantasy. I chose this book because I had read the other books in the series. When this book was published I tried to read it as fast as I could because all the other books were amazing.

This book is a window because I am not an elf with powers. A window is a book that you don’t see yourself in. A mirror is a book that you can see yourself in. I hope you read more!

North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences

For a field trip I went to the NC Museum of Natural Sciences with my peers. We had a 30 minute drive in a bus. We talked, laughed, and sang. When we got there we looked at the animals. Then we went into the sea exhibit. There was a giant whale skeleton hanging from the ceiling. We then went up stairs to get a closer look at the whale skeleton. We then looked at the insects and the dinosaurs. Next, we looked at the weather station and meteorology section. Next, we ate lunch outside and talked. We then looked at the rocks/crystals, the river animals, the race exhibit, and more animals. In all I had an amazing time there! I hope I can go again!
